Secure
Data Backup
With respect to file backups, the term "Secure Data Backup" can really take on two meanings: Offsite Data Backup and Encrypted Data Backup.
1. Offsite Data Backup
Offsite Data Backup is one component of a "Secure Data Backup" solution in that you have an
offsite backup copy of your data which keeps your
data safe. In other words, you have
protected your
data from things like fire, theft, natural disaster,
vandalism, terrorism, and hard-disk failure simply
by storing your data at an offsite location.
2. Encrypted Data Backup
Another component of a "Secure Data Backup" solution is data encryption. Because of the
encryption, the data can not be compromised by an
unauthorized party. Strong file encryption
along
with undiscoverable
passwords
are key in
keeping your files safe from prying eyes.
Secure Data Backup the SecureBackup™ way...
The SecureBackup™ service was engineered from the ground up to support U.S. government strength
file encryption and to store these files at a safe
and secure offsite location.
However, even the best file encryption in the world will not protect
your backup files. For the absolute best protection,
the password used to create these encrypted files
must
also be secure.
Unlike many online backup services, SecureBackup™ offers the ultimate in password protection. This is accomplished by
making your password "undiscoverable". In other words, there is no website page in which you
need to enter your password. This means that a hacker
can not
eavesdrop server-side
and bypass SSL encryption to obtain your password.
In addition to that, the SecureBackup™ service does not store passwords or file encryption keys
online.
Another password protection measure in the SecureBackup™ service is that it does not offer
a "Password Recovery" option.
Password
recovery allows someone to retrieve their password
if they forget it. Many Internet services use these dangerous
password recovery systems.
However, since we do not
have a
copy
of
your password and since
your password is created client-side
in the
SecureBackup™ software, we will never have a copy of your password
to "recover" in the first place, let alone provide
to someone who may claim to be you but really
isn't.
Due to these and many other design considerations, the SecureBackup™ service is a very secure data backup solution. And due to our "undiscoverable" password implementation, and our willful inability to provide a "password recovery"
option, there is a zero percent (0%) chance that
your data
will ever be compromised!
